The Lebanese Ministry of Interior and Municipalities has issued decision No. 791 on July 2, 2026, regulating truck travel schedules on Lebanese roads to reduce traffic congestion, enhance public safety, and ensure smooth traffic flow. The decision mandates the regulation of all Lebanese and foreign trucks traveling on international and main roads, with certain specified exceptions.
According to the decision, trucks exceeding a total weight of 7.5 tons are prohibited from traveling during the following times:
Friday: from 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Sunday: from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
The governors have been authorized to adjust these timings within their jurisdictions when necessary, in accordance with the specific circumstances of the areas, in coordination with concerned municipalities and internal security forces, to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow.
The decision exempts military trucks and vehicles, civil defense and firefighting vehicles, ambulances, fuel, gas, and drinking water tankers, trucks transporting grains and flour, waste transportation vehicles, as well as refrigerated trucks designated for transporting agricultural, fresh fruit and vegetable products, meats, and medicines.
The ministry asserted that the Internal Security Forces will implement the decision in coordination with the Operations Room of the General Directorate, with measures in place to facilitate truck movement without compromising public safety requirements.
The decision also emphasizes the obligation of truck drivers to adhere to legal speed limits, maintain load weight within permissible limits, prohibit the transportation of loads exceeding designated heights, cover trucks loaded with gravel or sand, and ensure the driver possesses a valid license and legal documentation for the truck, under penalty of enforcement of the penalties outlined in the traffic law.
