DP World Expands its Land Network with 700 Trucks and 35,000 Monthly Trips

The largest container ship in the world, Emma Maersk, arrives at Jebel Ali port.

In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of regional supply chains, DP World has announced the acquisition of 700 new trucks to bolster its freight land transport network within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. This initiative is part of a long-term strategy to expand its integrated logistics infrastructure.

The new fleet is expected to provide up to 35,000 additional truck trips per month, enhancing both domestic and cross-border transport services for the company's client base in the region. It will cover transportation processes in the 'first mile,' 'middle mile,' and 'last mile' stages, whether for containerized or non-containerized goods.

According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), this investment is part of the company's plan to integrate ports, terminals, economic zones, and digital platforms into a multimodal logistics network, boosting trade efficiency in the region.

Ahmed Yusuf Al Hassan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World in the GCC, stated that the investment is part of the company's strategy to develop an integrated network that meets client needs, emphasizing that expanding operational capabilities is a response to ongoing regional demand growth.

He added, "With the growth in regional demand, we are expanding our capabilities to provide clients with an integrated network they can depend on at every stage."

Ravin Julian, CEO of Logistics Operations at DP World, explained that the new trucks are more fuel-efficient and comply with the European emission standard "Euro 5." He mentioned that the company is considering introducing green energy vehicles into its fleet in the future.

The current DP World fleet handles approximately 3,000 truck movements daily across the GCC countries, making the new addition a significant expansion of the company's operational capacity.

This step comes as the UAE intensifies efforts to enhance supply chain resilience and diversify trade routes amidst challenges faced in the Strait of Hormuz during periods of regional tension, leading to increased investment in land transport networks and logistic alternatives capable of ensuring smooth movement of goods.
