Israel anticipates increased military confrontation between the United States and Iran in the coming week, with Israeli media reporting that Washington is preparing a new target list within Iran, potentially including power plants and energy generation facilities.
According to Israel's Channel 12, assessments presented at recent security and political meetings in Jerusalem suggest that the U.S.-Iran conflict might escalate soon, with ongoing American military operations against Iranian targets.
The channel added that the United States is compiling a new list of targets inside Iran, focusing on infrastructure related to electricity production and transmission, aiming to strike at what it considers a "weak point" in Iran's infrastructure. This aligns with previous statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
An Israeli official was quoted, saying, "We are preparing for the potential escalation of the confrontation, and we are ready for all scenarios that may have repercussions on Israel."
Conflict Beyond Israel?
Despite the expected escalation, the channel noted that Israeli security and political leadership assessments still favor the likelihood of the conflict remaining contained between the U.S. and Iran, without spreading to the Israeli front for now.
Israeli assessments suggest that Tehran understands expanding the attacks from the Gulf region to include Israel would have significant consequences, explaining why Israel has not been targeted so far, according to the report.
No immediate comments were available from the United States or Iran regarding the Israeli channel's claims about preparing a new target list or the nature of potential targets.
New Initiative
In another development, Channel 12 revealed, citing two Western diplomats, that Qatar has proposed a new initiative to the United States and Iran aimed at restarting negotiations and containing the escalation.
The report added that Tehran views the Qatari initiative positively, seeing it as potentially meeting some of its demands, and highlighted that Iran has currently halted attacks towards Qatar.
These developments come as the United States continues military strikes inside Iran for the sixth consecutive night, asserting that its operations aim to undermine Iran's military capabilities, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the region.
