Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the Arab League, affirmed the league's unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing support against threats to its security and sovereignty. Fahmy considered recent comments attributed to the Houthi military spokesperson as an escalation that could undermine efforts towards peace and stability in the region.
Fahmy urged avoiding escalatory rhetoric, advocating for a return to political solutions and dialogue, emphasizing that peaceful resolution remains the best course for addressing the Yemeni crisis while safeguarding Yemen’s security and regional stability.
The official spokesperson for the Arab League's Secretary-General stated that Saudi Arabia's security and territorial integrity are fundamental to the Arab national security system, indicating the league's backing for any measures Riyadh employs to protect itself in accordance with international law and the U.N. Charter.
Similarly, Arab Parliament President Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi condemned the provocative and irresponsible statements that included accusations and threats against the kingdom, stressing that any threat to Saudi Arabia is a threat to Arab national security.
Al Yamahi urged the international community to intensify efforts to ensure Red Sea navigation security and to implement relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions to prevent actions that could threaten global trade or escalate regional tensions.
This collective stance arrives amid rising security concerns in the Red Sea due to its strategic significance as a major global maritime corridor connecting the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean via the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal, highlighting its importance for trade and global energy supplies.
