The Progressive Socialist Party's media commission issued a statement warmly welcoming the discussions held between Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. The party praised the statements from the Lebanese Presidency following the bilateral summit, particularly President Aoun's urgent call for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories as a crucial step toward internal stability and enabling the Lebanese state to exercise its authority across its entire territory independently.
The PSP underscored that full Israeli withdrawal is a non-negotiable national right, based on international resolutions, agreements, and the Taif Agreement that emphasized Lebanon's full sovereignty up to its internationally recognized borders. The party also insists on the right of southern residents to return to their villages and towns, rejecting any situation that impedes their safe and complete return to their land.
The PSP welcomed President Trump's announcement that Israelis are "in the process of withdrawing from Lebanese areas." However, it stressed that the true significance lies in the full implementation of this withdrawal, as it would restore Lebanon’s sovereignty over all its territories. In this context, the PSP reiterated its call for support of the Lebanese army, citing its national role and the need for resources to enable its deployment across Lebanon, ensuring state authority and exclusive control of arms, as established by the Taif Agreement.
As the Lebanese army begins to deploy in villages from which the occupying forces are withdrawing, the PSP condemned the Israeli gunfire targeting army members during a deployment mission in the town of Western Zoter. It emphasized the need for Israel to resolve any issues through Lebanon’s special military coordination group instead of continuing attacks that hinder residents' return to their villages and represent ongoing violations of all commitments, with no genuine deterrent against Israeli breaches.
