Oil Tanker Hit by 'Unknown Projectile' Off Oman Coast: UK Agency Reports

An oil tanker was hit by an 'unknown projectile' off the coast of Oman, according to a British maritime agency, as the United States and Iran vie for control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that the oil tanker sustained damage in the engine room due to the 'unknown projectile.'

The agency added that no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred approximately 12.5 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman.

Further, there were no reports of environmental damage from the incident off the coast of Oman.

It is notable that Lima is located on the Musandam Peninsula in Oman at the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway connecting the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
