Dolores Aveiro, the mother of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, missed her son's secret civil wedding to Georgina Rodriguez. The couple held an exclusive ceremony with only four witnesses and their children at their luxurious mansion near Lisbon, valued at approximately £30 million.
Ronaldo and Georgina officially tied the knot at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, attended by just four witnesses. Notably absent were Ronaldo's mother and his three siblings, Hugo, Elma, and Katia.
The marriage came after a decade-long relationship and a year after the couple announced their engagement on social media, maintaining separate assets before tying the knot.
The couple signed a prenuptial agreement on August 10, a day before the ceremony, at a notary in Lisbon to outline the financial arrangements of their properties.
Ronaldo’s representatives confirmed earlier this week that the player and Georgina married on August 11 in a "private" ceremony in Cascais. The announcement came after the pair shared a photo of their hands with wedding rings on Instagram.
According to Portuguese and British reports, Ronaldo and Georgina ensured the wedding's date and location remained undisclosed. Marriage registrar Maria Manuel traveled from Porto to Cascais for the formalities without informing family members in advance.
The witnesses included Georgina’s sister Ivana, Ronaldo’s close friend Miguel Paixao, and Spanish couple Jose Rodriguez Sanz and Monica Gonzalez Martinez.
Ronaldo's five children—Cristiano Jr., twins Eva Maria and Mateo, Alana, and Bella—were present, but the rest of the family were absent.
The British newspaper "The Sun" revealed that Ronaldo's mother and siblings only learned of the wedding minutes before it happened, preventing them from attending the ceremony.
The Portuguese "Jornal de Notícias" published a copy of the marriage contract, detailing that the ceremony took place in Ronaldo's opulent mansion in the upscale Quinta da Marinha area.
Despite her absence, Dolores Aveiro later congratulated her son on his marriage, engaging with Ronaldo's Instagram announcement and responding with a heart emoji.
