Lebanon's national electricity company has issued a statement declaring the commencement of electricity disconnections for public sector entities failing to settle their dues. The move follows a board decision on Friday, August 14, 2026, demanding payments from public administrations, institutions, and municipalities.
The electricity board had previously set a five-working-day deadline for these entities to comply before facing power cuts, starting this Monday. The board clarifies to the public the following points:
- Firstly, the company has initiated power outages for non-compliant public sectors, municipalities, and institutions that have not settled their dues or contacted the company within the stipulated timeframe to resolve their issues or request additional time.
- Secondly, the board expresses gratitude to those who have partially or fully paid their dues, as their contributions directly support the continuity of public services and electricity supply.
Entities that made partial payments are encouraged to complete the balance within ten days of this announcement to avoid further actions.
- Thirdly, the electricity provider urges all public sectors, municipalities, and concerned subscribers to promptly settle their outstanding payments, either directly at Lebanon Electricity counters or through the Ministry of Finance remittances to the company’s accounts, adhering to legal procedures.
The company emphasizes that consistent payment and dues settlement are crucial for maintaining energy supply and the proper functioning of public services, especially amid current financial and economic challenges with rising fuel and global oil prices.
- Fourthly, the board reiterates that the measures are uniformly applied to all concerned parties, not aimed at cutting power itself, but at recovering public funds owed to the company, ensuring equality among subscribers, and enabling the ongoing provision of electricity.
Lastly, the board calls on all entities still in default to immediately contact the electricity company and resolve their dues within specified deadlines to prevent power disconnections, as per the board’s resolutions.
