The Jordanian government has agreed to supply Lebanon with natural gas through a floating vessel stationed in the port of Aqaba, in cooperation with Syria, to support Lebanon's energy needs for electricity production.
Under the arrangement, Jordan will import liquefied natural gas (LNG) and regasify it using a floating regasification unit and available infrastructure in the kingdom. This gas will then be transported through pipelines extending from southern to northern Jordan, eventually reaching Lebanon via Syrian territory.
The government, led by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, stated that the decision aligns with the national energy sector strategy, which aims to reinforce Jordan's position as a regional energy exchange hub and a producer of green energy by leveraging developed gas and electricity networks.
They added that Jordan has been supplying Syria with gas through the same mechanism since the beginning of the year, highlighting that this new step is part of efforts to support Lebanon and utilize existing energy infrastructure.
