Is Apple Prohibited from Protecting Its Own Apps?

Democratic Representative David Cicilline, who is leading the campaign to pass new regulations for American technology companies, stated that Apple would be prohibited under antitrust reform laws from giving its own apps the advantage of preventing users from removing them from Apple devices. This means that Apple must allow consumers to decide which apps to use or remove. The ban on self-preference will also apply to Amazon's Prime subscription service as it harms certain sellers. When asked if Microsoft would be subject to similar actions, Cicilline said that it is up to the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to make that decision.
