New Feature for FaceTime Allows Virtual Watch Parties

Apple announced major changes to the FaceTime video application with the public beta release of iOS 15 next July. One of the most notable features is SharePlay, which allows iPhone users to host virtual watch parties and share their screens through FaceTime video calls. With SharePlay, users can stream movies or TV shows while also engaging in video chats. SharePlay can be used to share music or the entire iPhone screen.

**SharePlay for Streaming TV or Movies**

When streaming movies or TV shows with friends, the content syncs across devices, allowing both parties to access playback controls. For SharePlay to work, both parties need to be using FaceTime on Apple devices that support iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or macOS Monterey.

**How to Set Up the Feature in FaceTime:**

1. Start a FaceTime call with a friend.

2. Open a streaming app and choose a show or movie.

3. Press play to watch the stream at the same time.

**Using SharePlay for Music**

1. Start a FaceTime call with a friend.

2. Open Apple Music and choose a song.

3. Press play to start the song on both devices simultaneously.

**SharePlay for Sharing iPhone Screen**

FaceTime will allow screen sharing during calls, enabling users to share more than just music and videos. This feature will also work on other Apple devices, meaning users can share a Mac, iPhone, or iPad screen during the call.
