In an article titled "Moroccan Monarch Congratulates Naftali Bennett on Becoming Israeli Prime Minister," Swiss Info reported via Reuters that Moroccan King Mohammed VI congratulated Naftali Bennett on his election as Prime Minister of Israel and emphasized the kingdom's commitment to continue its goals in serving peace in the Middle East. The Moroccan monarch stated in a letter sent to Bennett on Tuesday evening, "I take this opportunity to reaffirm to you the Kingdom of Morocco's commitment to continue its effective role and good efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East that ensures all peoples of the region live together in security, stability, and harmony." Morocco restored relations with Israel on December 10 of last year through U.S. mediation. In return, the administration of former President Donald Trump recognized Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara region between Morocco and the Polisario Front since 1976. Three other Arab countries, the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan, also normalized relations with Israel in 2020.
