New York State Senator Kevin Thomas presented a resolution to the council to designate December 2, 2021, as "Emirati Day" in New York, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the United Arab Emirates. Senator Thomas stated, "The UAE and the state of New York share strong ties that span various fields including trade and education. New York remains one of the most popular destinations for Emirati students seeking diverse educational opportunities. On this occasion, I am pleased to take this opportunity to highlight the significance of the 50th anniversary of the UAE (Year of the Fifty) in its history by declaring December 2, 2021, as Emirati Day in the state."
For his part, the UAE Consul in New York, Abdullah Shaheen, commented: "The UAE is celebrating in December this year the 50th anniversary of its establishment, as well as 50 years of friendship and cooperation with the state of New York, which is based on solid foundations in various aspects including commerce, arts, sports, and education." He added, "I would like to thank Senator Kevin Thomas for his kind initiative to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE in New York, reflecting our shared understanding that the future of friendship between the UAE and New York is continually growing," as reported by the Emirates News Agency "WAM."
It is noteworthy that Senator Kevin Thomas was born in Dubai and immigrated with his family to New York at the age of ten. He represents the sixth district in the New York Senate and serves as the chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee focused on banking, finance, health, internet and technology, justice, and local governance committees.
