Rezidun Zeninnga, the assistant secretary-general and coordinator of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, stated that the talks facilitated by the international organization aimed at paving the way for elections in Libya at the end of December have failed to reach an agreement. Zeninnga's remarks came on Friday evening following several days of discussions near Geneva. In the closing session, Zeninnga said, "The Libyan people will certainly feel disappointed as they still yearn for the opportunity to exercise their democratic right in the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24. This does not bode well for the credibility and significance of the Libyan political dialogue forum in the future." He added, "I urge you to continue consulting among yourselves in an effort to reach a viable settlement and to strengthen what unites you."
