On Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates ranked fifth globally in the 2020 Cybersecurity Index issued by the International Telecommunication Union, part of the United Nations. The ranking monitors improvements in awareness levels regarding the importance of cybersecurity across 193 countries worldwide, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM). The UAE jumped 33 positions in the 2020 Cybersecurity Index compared to the previous ranking, reflecting advanced awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in the UAE and the adoption of all advanced measures to protect it.
Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, the Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE government, stated that "the significant leap of the UAE is the result of the wise directives and visionary insights of the prudent leadership, which has achieved a developed digital infrastructure that meets the aspirations of the UAE for the next fifty years."
He added that the UAE's advanced ranking in the Cybersecurity Index reflects "the correctness of the strategies and policies adopted by the UAE in digitizing life, amidst a comprehensive smart work environment that enjoys security and safety, which in turn has enhanced the performance of various sectors, driving further progress and prosperity and solidifying the UAE's advanced position globally in the field of cybersecurity."
The Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE government emphasized that this achievement "could not have been realized without the joint efforts of national teams and collaboration and coordination between government and private institutions, along with the efficiency of qualified national personnel who raised the UAE's flag high, achieving advanced positions in various fields worldwide."
He added, "This is what we aspire to sustain in the Cybersecurity Council's strategy." This new achievement adds to the UAE's impressive record in the field of cybersecurity, as the Cybersecurity Council was established, a federal electronic network was implemented, a national cloud was created, cybersecurity initiatives were launched, digital citizenship certificates were issued, and cybersecurity strategies and electronic security measures were introduced.
