A new study published its results today, Monday, indicating that the death rate increased "significantly" during the second wave of COVID-19 infections in India. It suggested that the "Delta" variant might be more deadly, according to news agency "Bloomberg." The "Delta" variant was responsible for the substantial rise in local infection cases in India. The study, published in the "Journal of Medical Research" in India and conducted by researchers led by Jonjan Kumar, noted that the higher death rates included all age groups except those under 20 years old. The "Delta" variant is known to be highly contagious, and if it proves to also be more deadly, it would compel governments, already strained by the pandemic, to intensify public health measures.
