Some people tend to take long showers, thinking that this will help them achieve maximum cleanliness for their bodies. However, experts say that prolonged showering can negatively affect health. In an interview with the British newspaper Express, health and beauty specialist Dr. Raha Khayat warned against staying under the shower for too long.
Dr. Khayat explained: "While showering is a necessary means to remove sweat, dead skin cells, and dirt, and to give the body a fresh scent, daily long showers can have a negative impact on the skin." She added: "Washing the skin frequently and for long periods can strip away natural oils and affect the natural bacteria that thrive there to support the immune system."
This view is supported by Harvard Health experts, who confirmed that healthy skin maintains a layer of oil, as well as a balance of good bacteria and other microorganisms. Therefore, excessive washing and scrubbing of the skin removes the protective oil layer and disrupts the balance of beneficial bacteria.
Moreover, the removal of natural bacteria can lead to various problems, such as harming the immune system and causing dryness and irritation of the skin. Dr. Khayat advised against spending too much time in the shower, emphasizing that five minutes of showering is sufficient to achieve a completely clean body and avoid any harm to the body.
