The Chinese National Health Commission announced that the recent wave of COVID-19 outbreaks in China has spread to 14 provinces, with local infections and asymptomatic cases recorded over the past 14 days. During a press conference on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Commission, Mi Feng, stated that the pandemic prevention and control situation remains grim and complex, as infections continue to spread rapidly. In the same context, China's chief epidemiology expert, Zhong Nanshan, indicated that the country would be able to effectively contain the latest wave of COVID-19 outbreaks within a month. Additionally, the National Health Commission reported on Sunday the confirmation of 71 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in mainland China currently stands at 97,151, while the death toll remains stable at 4,636.
