Civil defense teams in Mosul, Iraq, succeeded on Monday in rescuing a one-and-a-half-year-old child who had fallen into a 50-meter-deep well with a narrow diameter of just half a meter. The civil defense reported on its Facebook page that "it was impossible to lower a rescue worker due to the narrowness of the well, so a slender volunteer boy was used, whose feet were tied and lowered vertically into the well to reach the child, securing him and then raising both of them."
The rescue forces added that the child and the boy were brought safely to the top of the well, and first aid was quickly provided to the child, noting, "Thank God, his health condition was stable." The civil defense shared a video showing the operation of retrieving the boy along with the child, amid cheers from the onlookers who encouraged the boy with shouts of "Hero!" before the boy showed signs of dizziness, for which he was immediately given oxygen. The civil defense also published photos of the small child and the size of the well after the rescue.
