Residents in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and other cities felt an earthquake this morning, Tuesday. Al-Arabiya reported that the tremor originated from the Mediterranean Sea and was felt by residents in Egypt, Lebanon, and Israel. The Egyptian National Institute for Astronomical Research stated that the earthquake occurred at 7:32 AM local time, with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, located in the eastern Mediterranean.
It was noted that residents in Cairo, Alexandria, and coastal cities felt the earthquake, although there were no reported casualties or property damage. Concurrently, many Egyptians commented on the incident on social media, questioning who felt the tremor, with some indicating that people in Giza also experienced it.
Furthermore, residents from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and Assiut in Upper Egypt reported that their homes shook due to the earthquake. It is noteworthy that last week, residents of the Egyptian capital and several governorates also experienced a tremor from a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. Egypt is generally considered distant from the seven known seismic belts globally, but due to its proximity to seismically active areas such as the Gulf of Aqaba, Gulf of Suez, and the Red Sea, it occasionally experiences moderate earthquakes.
