Video Shows Arrest of Prominent Iraqi Politician for Extortion

The Iraqi National Security Agency released a video documenting the moment of the arrest of Sabah Al-Kanani, the head of the Reform and Change Foundation, who was described as an "extortionist," caught in the act. The National Security Agency in Baghdad stated in a report that "the individual named Sabah Al-Kanani was arrested on charges of extortion and bribery of a general director in the Ministry of Industry and Minerals for the amount of $30,000." He was detained following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him by the First Karkh Investigative Court, and "his statements will be recorded, and he will be referred to the relevant authorities for necessary actions," according to the statement. Al-Kanani ran in the Iraqi elections held on October 10th, for the second constituency, ticket number 46.
