The United Kingdom has planned to impose taxes on retailers and technology companies that have seen increased profits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to The Sunday Times, the government has summoned companies to discuss how the online sales tax will work, while plans are also being made to impose a one-time excess profits tax. The report indicates that it is unlikely that Chancellor Rishi Sunak will announce these taxes in the budget statement scheduled for March 3, which will focus on extending the coronavirus furlough scheme and supporting businesses.
