The Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the rescue of a girl from an attempted blackmail and the prevention of another from committing suicide in two separate operations. The ministry's media office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the community police in Dhi Qar province were able to identify a blackmailer who threatened a girl by saying he would publish her personal photos on social media unless she complied with his vile demands. The office noted that necessary measures were taken against him after removing the blackmail content and securing the girl's account.
In a separate incident, the ministry confirmed that community police units in Nineveh province managed to convince a girl to abandon her suicidal thoughts due to abuse from her brother. They stated that community police provided psychological and moral support to the girl, rehabilitated her, and restored her self-confidence, while taking the necessary actions against her brother. The community police emphasized to the girl's family the importance of caring for and looking after her, and assured that they would make regular visits to the girl's home to monitor her situation closely.
