QatarGas announced on Twitter on Sunday that it has begun constructing four giant liquefied natural gas (LNG) production lines, which will raise its production capacity to 110 million tons per year from 77 million tons per year. Qatar has hired engineering companies to expand its planned production capacity, with an investment of $29 billion for LNG production, in an effort to cement its position as the largest fuel supplier in the world. Qatari Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi stated in February 2021 that the state-owned Qatar Petroleum (now QatarEnergy) selected Japanese firm Chiyoda and London-based TechnipFMC for construction work valued at approximately $13 billion. In 2019, Qatar increased the scale of its expansion plan for its massive LNG production facilities after drilling and evaluation in its fields, expecting to produce 126 million tons per year by 2027.
