The conservative-friendly internet infrastructure company "RightForge" will host former U.S. President Donald Trump's new social media platform, as announced by its CEO, Martin Avila. Avila stated in a comment to Axios that he expects the new social media platform to have over 75 million users and revealed that the company hosting the platform on the internet "is laying the groundwork for that." He continued, "That's why there will be servers everywhere."
After his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, Twitter and Facebook suspended Trump's accounts, but the CEO of RightForge expressed his belief that the former president should not be silenced. Avila stated, "If you think the president should be prevented from using platforms, we believe you are not really interested in living in a free country." He added, "What we truly aim for is to ensure that America remains true to its foundational ideas and that the marketplace of ideas remains open."
Last week, Trump announced that he intends to launch his own social network named "Truth Social." In a statement, Trump said, "I created Truth Social to stand up to the tyranny of big tech companies," which "have used their unilateral powers to silence opposing voices in America." The platform, part of the Trump Media & Technology Group, will also offer on-demand video services, as mentioned in the statement. Trump added, "We live in a world where the Taliban has a substantial presence on Twitter while your favorite American president is being silenced. This is unacceptable."
