Sisi Lifts State of Emergency Across Egypt

For the first time in many years, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi lifted the state of emergency across the country on Monday. The president announced the decision via his official Facebook account, expressing his happiness that Egypt has become an oasis of security and stability in the region. Accordingly, he decided to lift the extension of the state of emergency for the first time in years nationwide.

The president also considered the Egyptian people to be the true makers of this decision over the past years, due to their sincere participation in all development and construction efforts, as he expressed. He also cited the sacrifices of the security forces, army, and police that led the country to a state of security and stability. It is noteworthy that Sisi had imposed the state of emergency following attacks on two churches in Tanta and Alexandria in April 2017, after a prolonged meeting of the National Defense Council. The Parliament had then approved the decision by a majority of the members.
