The leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, condemned the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi on Sunday, describing it as a "terrorist act." He wrote in a tweet: "The terrorist act that targeted the highest authority in the country is a clear and explicit attack on Iraq and its people, aiming at its security and stability and returning it to a state of chaos for the forces of non-state actors to control, thus subjecting Iraq to turmoil, violence, and terrorism, exposing it to risks and external interventions from here and there." He added: "Our heroic army and security forces must take the reins to ensure Iraq recovers and returns strong." Mustafa Kazemi commented on Twitter following the failed assassination attempt: "I was and still am a project of sacrifice for Iraq and the Iraqi people; the treacherous missiles will not deter the determination of the faithful, nor will they shake the steadfastness and resolve of our heroic security forces in maintaining people's security and establishing justice and law." The Security Media Cell earlier announced that Kazemi's residence in the Green Zone was targeted by a drone.
