The impressive Mohamed Salah assisted his teammate Sadio Mane for his 100th goal in the Premier League, while also scoring a stunning goal himself, and Roberto Firmino added three goals as Liverpool won 5-0 against Watford on Saturday. Salah's goal came while he was being marked by three Watford defenders; he skillfully touched the ball to evade them, dribbled past Cathcart causing him to slip in the wrong direction, and then the Egyptian player pulled back slightly before unleashing a precise shot with his left foot into the net.
Regarding the goal, Salah said after the match via BT Sports: "I think we wanted to start differently than we did against Manchester City, so we talked in the dressing room about starting the match well, and we did that." He added: "All goals are very important, but Roberto Firmino had a great performance scoring a hat-trick and I congratulate him, and Sadio Mane scored a wonderful goal as well." When asked if his goal against Watford was better than his goal against Manchester City, he replied: "I haven't watched my goal yet, maybe my goal against Manchester City is better, I don't know which is better." He continued, "I was in the penalty area trying to find someone or score myself; it's about the team and that’s the most important."
Regarding if he is going through the best period of his career, he said: "I don't know, sometimes I don't have the luck to score goals but I try 100% to help the team. At this moment, I trust myself, helping the team to earn points is the most important."
Jurgen Klopp, for his part, praised the Egyptian star for his stunning goal against Watford. The German coach said: "Salah is on top. We all see that now, who is better than him? There is always a big discussion about these things (who is the best player?)". He added: "We are not required to talk about what Ronaldo and Messi did for world football or how their dominance continued, but right now there is no one better than Salah." He concluded: "His performance was decisive today. The pass for the first goal was fantastic, and his goal was exceptional."
With this, Mohamed Salah has become the top African scorer in Premier League history, equalling the Ivorian Didier Drogba’s record with 104 goals, and he has scored in 8 consecutive matches for the first time with Liverpool. The win raised Liverpool's points to 18, placing them second, just one point behind leaders Chelsea, who defeated Brentford 1-0, while Watford occupies 16th place with 7 points.
