Rescue of Pregnant Citizen from Severe Stroke Using Advanced Device

Doctors at Rashid Hospital managed to save the life of a 25-year-old pregnant citizen in her third month who suffered a severe stroke while shopping at a mall in Dubai. She was subsequently transported to the emergency department at Rashid Hospital in a state of unconsciousness. Dr. Ayman Al-Sebai, a consultant and head of the interventional radiology department, stated that the patient was immediately diagnosed by the emergency and neurology departments with a blockage in one of the vessels supplying blood to the brain. She was quickly transferred to the operating room to remove the blockage, noting that the biggest challenge for the doctors was how to preserve the life of the fetus while rapidly saving the mother.

Dr. Al-Sebai added that the operation, which involved doctors from four departments including neurology, interventional radiology, emergency, and anesthesia, was carried out precisely under local anesthesia using a special device for suctioning clots, and the procedure was successful while maintaining the health of the fetus. He noted that the patient has been discharged from the hospital and is currently undergoing regular check-ups at Latifa Hospital for Women and Children, with both her and her fetus in good health.

He mentioned that the interventional radiology department performs annually between 70-100 procedures for patients aged between 50 and 70 years. He highlighted that strokes occurring in individuals in their twenties are rare and emphasized the necessity of transferring stroke patients to the nearest hospital as quickly as possible, pointing out that the globally recognized timeframe is six hours, but the earlier the patient arrives, the better the outcome.

He stated that Rashid Hospital is one of the leading hospitals in the country in dealing with strokes, noting the availability of the latest medical devices specialized in suctioning clots caused by strokes, in addition to the efficiency and expertise of the doctors in handling such cases.
