Egyptian businessman Ahmed Abou Heshima, chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee in the Egyptian Senate, has seriously moved toward taking legal action against Dr. Ashraf Sabry, the father of his wife, actress Yasmin Sabry, on charges of defamation and insult through his statements in the media and on social media platforms. Abou Heshima had previously chosen not to take any legal action against his father-in-law to protect his wife's feelings, but recent statements have exceeded acceptable limits, prompting him to consider necessary legal proceedings. Yasmin does not oppose taking the necessary legal measures available under the law to stop her father's continuous attacks on her and her husband in the media and on social media, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Yasmin stated in a previous interview that her relationship with her father has been severed since her childhood, noting that her parents' divorce did not cause them to become estranged. She said, “People make choices in their lives; some choose to take responsibility and follow through, while others choose themselves or whatever,” adding, “There is no relationship between me and him,” and emphasizing that her maternal grandmother raised her and instilled a sense of responsibility in her since she was four years old.
Dr. Sabry, Yasmin’s father, had published photos of her on his official Facebook account from her first engagement to prove that she had been in contact with him as she grew up, noting that his daughter married her current husband without his knowledge or consent. He later deleted the post after it sparked significant controversy among social media followers.
