A U.S. federal court on Wednesday sentenced actress Allison Mack to three years in prison for her involvement in a sexual slavery organization. This ruling, issued by a court in Brooklyn, is considered lenient due to her cooperation with authorities. The prosecution had sought a sentence of 14 to 17 and a half years, citing Mack's collaboration, as she is 38 years old and was accused of participating in a hierarchical sexual slavery organization.
At the time of sentencing, Judge Nicholas Garaufis imposed a three-year sentence for each of the charges of "extortion and racketeering," with the possibility of serving the sentences concurrently, according to reports from Agence France-Presse.
Mack provided the federal prosecutor's team with valuable information about the operational methods of the sexual slavery organization, known as "DOS," as well as the abuses committed by its founder, Keith Raniere. She recounted how Raniere encouraged his assistants within the organization to recruit women and directed them to engage in sexual relationships with him.
The actress, known for her role as Clark Kent’s (Superman’s) girlfriend in the television series "Smallville" from 2001 to 2011, also supplied investigators with recordings of a conversation with Raniere that were significant for the prosecution. In this conversation, Raniere, referred to by his followers as "Vanguard," explained to Mack the methods for branding the women enslaved in "DOS," which involved burning the initials of his name into their skin.
Raniere was sentenced in October 2020 to 120 years in prison for his role in "DOS" and "Nexium," a broader organization that involved thousands of individuals in its formations and forums between 1998 and 2018. According to AFP, Mack, in addition to cooperating with the court, apologized to the victims during the hearing, expressing that her heart is "crushed with pain and guilt" over this "horrific chapter" of her life, adding, "I am ashamed of my actions."
