Protesters against the decisions of Tunisian President Kais Saied attempted to breach security barriers on Sunday. The capital, Tunis, witnessed demonstrations against President Saied's recent decisions. Hundreds of Tunisians gathered on Sunday in front of the Tunisian Parliament in the Bardo district to express their opposition to the continuation of President Saied's exceptional measures. These protests were in response to a call from the initiative "Citizens Against the Coup" to rally against the "arbitrary state of exception" and in defense of "constitutional and parliamentary legitimacy."
The protests occur amidst a heavy police presence, as security forces closed all access points to the Parliament building, prompting some protesters to attempt to overcome the security barriers, leading to clashes between the two sides. The coalition "Citizens Against the Coup," composed of activists, rights advocates, and politicians opposed to Saied's decisions and supporters of the Ennahda Movement, was established coinciding with the announcement of these exceptional measures as a response against them.
