Russia Sends Satellite Images of Beirut Pre- and Post-Explosion to Lebanon

The head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, stated on Wednesday that the agency will send to Lebanon satellite images it possesses of the Port of Beirut before and after the massive explosion that devastated it last year. In October, Lebanese President Michel Aoun requested from Moscow satellite images of the port dating from August 4, 2020, when the explosion resulted in the deaths of more than 215 individuals and injured thousands, destroying vast areas of the Lebanese capital. Rogozin informed reporters, "I signed today a document accompanied by very detailed images in response to a request from the Lebanese leadership." The Beirut port explosion was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in the world and the worst disaster Lebanon has experienced during peacetime, as the country descends into a political and economic collapse.
