Sirens sounded inside the US Embassy in Baghdad on Monday, with local media reporting that the embassy was targeted by a missile attack. The Kurdish news network "Rudaw" published a video showing the ground defenses at the US embassy responding to an unidentified aerial target. Reuters reported from two Iraqi security sources that a drone was intercepted and shot down near the US embassy in Baghdad without any casualties. The sources added that "the drone did not reach the embassy compound." The US embassy is located in the Green Zone, a heavily fortified area within the Iraqi capital Baghdad, which houses government buildings and foreign diplomatic missions. However, this area, especially the US embassy, is periodically subjected to Katyusha rocket attacks, although these do not usually result in human casualties. So far, Iraqi security forces have not disclosed the perpetrators of these attacks targeting the area.
