There are many symptoms that can occur in individuals with diabetes, some of whom may not realize they have the condition. The UK National Health Service states that symptoms of high blood sugar in diabetes patients tend to develop slowly over a few days or weeks, including stomach symptoms and other unusual signs such as fruity-smelling breath. The "Express" newspaper reported that the NHS mentioned symptoms of high blood sugar levels include abdominal pain, unintentional weight loss, increased thirst, dry mouth, fatigue, blurred vision, and finding that your breath smells fruity. The NHS warns that high blood sugar can be dangerous if blood sugar levels become extremely high or remain elevated for extended periods. The Diabetes UK organization explains: "Blood sugar levels fluctuate throughout the day, and for those with diabetes, these changes are more significant and occur more frequently than for those without diabetes." Additionally, Diabetes Australia notes that there are several common causes of elevated blood sugar levels, including stress, and adds that consuming too many carbohydrate-rich foods at once can impact blood sugar levels.
