The United Arab Emirates sent 36 tons of urgent medical and food aid to the Republic of Mozambique to alleviate the humanitarian impact faced by the coastal town of Palma in Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, due to a terrorist attack by armed groups affiliated with ISIS. This attack resulted in dozens of casualties, hundreds of injuries, and the displacement of a large number of residents from the town, with many families left homeless and without basic food necessities, especially among children and women.
His Excellency Khalid Ibrahim Abdul Aziz Shaheel Al Qahtani, the UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Mozambique, stated that since joining the international coalition to defeat ISIS in 2014, the UAE has aimed to support all global efforts to eliminate this organization and prevent the spread of its extremist ideology. He added that this urgent humanitarian aid being sent by the UAE to Mozambique is part of providing humanitarian supplies and basic needs to relieve the burden on those affected by the terrorist attack, and it is also part of the humanitarian response and assistance to all African countries in such critical circumstances.
It is noteworthy that the UAE previously sent assistance containing 8.7 tons of medical supplies to Mozambique to support approximately 9,000 healthcare workers in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
