US Military Strikes Al-Shabaab for the Second Time This Week in Somalia

The US military reported that it conducted an airstrike on Friday targeting Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia, marking the second such strike this week. The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) stated that the strike was carried out in the vicinity of the Galmudug region in Somalia and confirmed that its forces did not accompany Somali troops during the operation. The attack comes just three days after a similar US strike aimed at the Islamist group linked to Al-Qaeda, which seeks to overthrow the Somali government and impose its strict interpretation of Islamic law. The Pentagon stated in a statement, "US forces are authorized to conduct strikes in support of partner fighting forces in the context of collective self-defense."
