European Parliament Condemns China's Repression of Muslims

Members of the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution condemning China's repression of Uyghur Muslims and activists in various regions of China.

The deputies decided to proceed with caution before voting on the preliminary investment agreement between China and the European Union, warning that the EU could lose credibility regarding human rights by signing this agreement with China. They stated during the meeting that a vote on the investment agreement is not expected before the end of the year at the earliest. They expressed regret that the investment talks between the EU and China were not used as a pressure tool to maintain a high degree of autonomy for Hong Kong, as well as its minimum rights and freedoms.
