The Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in the virtual climate summit organized by the United States on April 22. The Russian presidency announced in a brief statement today, Monday, that President Putin will present during the summit "Russia's approach within the context of developing comprehensive international cooperation aimed at overcoming the negative consequences of climate change globally."
Earlier, U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry announced in late January that President Joe Biden would host a virtual summit on "Earth Day," April 22, to discuss climate change with leaders of the world's largest economies. The White House later confirmed that the list of invitees to the summit includes leaders from 40 countries, emphasizing that the summit will highlight the utmost importance and economic benefits of intensifying efforts to combat climate change. It will also serve as a significant step in preparation for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, which will be hosted in Glasgow, Scotland, in November.
