Shocking Study: Being Overweight May Be Beneficial with This Serious Illness

Recent research has revealed that being overweight can increase survival chances from certain fatal diseases. According to a study conducted by scientists from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, involving 2,196 individuals, those with larger waist circumferences were less likely to die from severe bacterial infections. The study found that 26% of patients with severe bacterial infections and normal weight died within a year, compared to 9% to 17% in groups with higher body mass index. The British newspaper "The Sun" quoted the study's author, Dr. Aisa Aliso, stating, "In most diseases, obesity and being overweight is dangerous, which applies to several types of cancers and cardiovascular diseases, and particularly COVID-19, as a higher body mass index is associated with higher mortality rates; however, the situation is different with severe bacterial infections." Co-author Dr. Gunnar Jacobson explained that "more experiments are needed to shed light on how body weight affects the body's defenses against infections so that treatment can be tailored."
