Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian stated that "Tehran welcomes any regional initiative from the officials of the Republic of Iraq that involves countries in the region." According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry's media diplomacy office, Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, "We believe that Syria, as an important neighbor of Iraq, should have been invited to the summit." He added, "Of course, we are in contact and consultations with the Syrian leadership regarding the security and sustainable development of the region, and we will consult directly with Damascus about the 'Baghdad Summit', emphasizing the important role of the countries in the region in any regional context."

The conference for neighboring countries, convened by Mustafa Al-Kadhimi's government, is set to start today, Saturday, in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, in an attempt to restore Iraq's role in the region. This recently announced conference represents a significant opportunity for Al-Kadhimi's government to host adversaries at one table and bring opposing sides together to achieve stability in a region that is affected by events in Iraq.
