The Hong Kong government's official website reported the discovery of an envelope containing a blade and a threatening letter addressed to Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam in the government complex's mailbox. According to the statement, the envelope was found during a routine check of incoming mail on Monday, December 13, and a report was subsequently made to the police. The statement noted, "A spokesperson for the Chief Executive's Office condemned this act... Hong Kong is a law-abiding society and will not tolerate illegal acts such as violence and intimidation." The threatening letter comes ahead of the Legislative Council elections scheduled for December 19 in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. It is worth noting that if illegal means are used to influence the performance of official duties by an official, whether it be the Chief Executive or other civil service employees, the Hong Kong government will punish the offenders to ensure the safety of civil servants and public order.
