A team of experts has discovered a mummy estimated to be at least 800 years old on the central coast of Peru. The mummy belongs to an individual from a civilization that lived between the coast and the mountains in Peru. Archaeologist Peter Van Dalen Luna stated that the mummy was found in the Lima area, and its gender has not yet been determined. The scholar from San Marcos State University explained that the remains belong to a person who lived in the high Andes region of the country. He added that the mummy was located inside an underground tomb on the outskirts of Lima, noting that the tomb also contained offerings, including pieces of pottery, plant remains, and stone tools, according to "Reuters." Peru is home to hundreds of archaeological sites from civilizations that existed before and after the Inca Empire, which dominated the southern part of South America 500 years ago, stretching from southern Ecuador and Colombia to central Chile.
