A source in the regional government of Yakutia reported that over 78,000 people were left without electricity across five areas in Yakutia, Russia, yesterday as temperatures fell below -50°C. The affected areas include Churabchensky, Ust-Maysky, Amginsky, Tatinsky, and Tombonsky, with power outages impacting 83 residential centers and more than 17,000 residential buildings home to over 78,000 citizens. The source noted that the length of power transmission lines in the affected regions is 120 kilometers. The cause of the incident was damage to one of the power transmission line supports in the Maya-Chubatcha area and the severing of cables. Regional authorities stated that electricity was provided to the aforementioned areas from backup power sources. They confirmed that all social facilities in those areas are operating normally.
