New Developments in the Diego Maradona Death Case

Matías Morla, the lawyer for the late Argentine legend Diego Maradona, believes that inadequate medical care may be a possible reason for the icon's death, considering his family's decision to treat him outside of the hospital as insane. Speaking on Monday before the Argentine court in Buenos Aires to testify in the Maradona death case, Morla described the last sound he heard from Maradona as "strange, like a robotic voice, very loud and intermittent," adding, "then I realized that sound was due to the amount of water in his body." He continued, "Maradona had no reason to return home when the doctors said he needed to stay in the clinic (to complete his treatment)."

This marks the beginning of a new phase of testimony initiated by the public prosecution in Buenos Aires, with Maradona's former secretary, Cristian Pomargo, scheduled to also testify next Wednesday, alongside the late star's nephew, Jonatan Esposito, both of whom were living in Maradona's house at the time of his death on November 25, 2020. The prosecutor has also summoned notary Sandra Verónica and Maradona's former accountant, Andrea Trimaretchi, to provide their testimonies.

Argentine authorities are investigating seven individuals in the Maradona death case to determine whether they provided the necessary care to keep the player alive, with potential prison sentences ranging from 8 to 25 years for such cases. The seven individuals include neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Díaz, home care coordinator Nancy Forlini, nursing coordinator Mariano Péroni, and nurses Ricardo Omar Almirón and Dahiana Madrid. All of them have testified in front of the Argentine court, which has been hearing testimonies in the case for months.
