The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received Mr. Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, and Mr. Lloyd Austin, the US Secretary of Defense, at the Pearl Palace this evening. During the meeting, they discussed the latest regional and international developments, particularly the situation in Afghanistan and the efforts being made to enhance security and stability there. In this context, the two ministers conveyed the gratitude and appreciation of US President Joe Biden to the Amir for Qatar's efforts in supporting the peace process in Afghanistan, its pivotal role in facilitating the evacuation of American citizens and citizens of allied countries, as well as Afghan civilians, in addition to Doha hosting negotiations between the United States and the Taliban. They emphasized the close partnership between the two countries and Qatar's diplomatic role in preserving regional and international security and peace. The meeting also addressed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop them for the mutual benefit of the two friendly peoples.
