Google's blog announced that users of the Gmail app on Android and iOS can now make voice and video calls between two people. Previously, making calls from within the Gmail app required sending an invitation for a voice or video call via Google Meet, but this process has been simplified, eliminating the need for an initial invitation, according to The Verge.
From now on, there will be simple icons in the top right corner of every individual conversation that can be used to initiate voice or video calls. Google explains, "To make a call, select the person, open the chat with them, then choose the voice or video call icon," noting that the duration and timing of the call will be visible in the call log, including missed calls. This feature will also allow for seamless switching between chat and video or voice calls as needed, according to Google. This feature was first announced in September, but starting Monday, it has begun rolling out to anyone with Google accounts.
