A strange incident occurred in India, where a man who was declared dead after a traffic accident was found to still be alive and breathing, albeit in critical condition, after spending a night in a cold room at a hospital.
Srikesh Kumar, 45 years old, was taken to a private clinic after being struck by a motorcycle in Moradabad, located east of New Delhi. Upon Kumar's arrival at the clinic, a doctor declared him dead. He was then transferred to a public hospital on Friday for an autopsy.
The medical director of the hospital, Rajendra Kumar, stated to AFP on Sunday that "the emergency doctor examined him and found no signs of life, thus declaring him dead." The body was kept in a cold room until the family arrived six hours later.
The hospital director added, "When a police team and his family came to initiate the administrative procedures for the autopsy, it was discovered that he was still alive, although he was in a coma." The hospital director considered what happened a "miracle," noting that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the misdiagnosis.
