Senior Emirati Official: Taliban Spokesperson's Statements on Tuesday Are Encouraging

A senior Emirati official stated on Tuesday that the remarks made by the Taliban earlier that day were "encouraging." This was the first statement from the Gulf state since Kabul fell under the control of the Islamist group. Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, tweeted, "Nations are built not through vengeance but through forgiveness, dialogue, and tolerance." He added, "We hope that Afghans will turn the page on suffering for the sake of peace and prosperity."
