Early Thursday, Egyptian security forces successfully rescued hostages held by a criminal with a notorious record in Al-Fayyum province, south of Cairo. An security source told "Sky News Arabia" that the suspect had held his children, wife, and members of his wife's family for 30 hours, beginning at midnight on Tuesday.
The source emphasized that the suspect had tortured the hostages on the grounds that his family and his wife's family deceived him regarding matters related to his marriage, claiming they had committed acts he disapproved of during his imprisonment in a murder case where he had previously been accused of killing a family member.
The residents of the village of Manshiyat Abdullah, where the incident occurred, informed the Al-Fayyum security authorities about the family's distress calls regarding the suspect's holding and torturing them. The security forces responded, and upon discovering that the suspect was armed, they feared for the hostages' lives and preferred to negotiate with him to protect them.
The source confirmed that during the negotiation period, a high-level security team was formed, comprising General Security, Criminal Investigation, and National Security forces, led by the General Security Director himself, who oversaw the hostage rescue operation from the site.
The source pointed out that the security forces executed a precise and surprise operation, which included storming the hostage location and blasting the iron door behind which the suspect was barricaded. The suspect exchanged fire with the forces, resulting in him being shot. The forces managed to control the situation and free the hostages, who were found to have suffered severe beatings and torture from the suspect during this time, as well as being deprived of food and water.
The source indicated that necessary measures were taken to provide medical aid to the hostages, and the suspect was transferred for treatment in accordance with the law. The public prosecutor was notified to conduct an investigation.
